“Yet his sons did not walk in his ways but turned aside after gain...”

1 Samuel 8:3 ESV

It is tragic how the sons of Samuel did not walk in his ways. Though they were sons of a great prophet, the lure of wealth was too much for them to ignore. As a result, when they succeeded their father as judges in the land, they turned to bribes and perverted the ways of justice. It wasn’t long before they lost the trust of the people and were rejected as leaders.

Just because we live in the fear of God, it does not mean our children will do the same. They need to come to the stage where God opens the eyes of their heart, and they take a decision to follow Him. We need to consistently pray and spend time with them. We need to train them in the way they should go, not afraid to discipline and correct them. Most importantly, we need to lead by example, for our actions speak louder than words.
