“Then the LORD called Samuel, and he said, “Here I am! and ran to Eli...”
1 Samuel 3:4,5 ESV
Although Eli had many shortcomings in his life, Samuel looked up to him for he had no other role model to follow. So, when he heard God calling out to him, he assumed it was Eli, unaware that God was speaking directly to him.
In ages past, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son (Hebrews 1:2). Are you always running to famous preachers and wise teachers to hear what God has to say? There is nothing wrong with trustworthy teachers and preachers, but don’t let that excuse you from hearing God speak directly to your heart. So, stop running, be still in your heart and mind, pray and meditate on the living word, and as you fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of your faith, He will speak to your heart.
