“And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground.”
1 Samuel 3:19 ESV
While Eli’s eyes grew dim, Samuel grew in stature and gained recognition as a spiritual leader in the land. His words could be relied on to bring healing, correction, direction, encouragement, and lasting change. It was not his own ability but his walk with God that made this all possible. He lived in the presence of God, with unwavering devotion, undistracted attention, and consistent obedience.
To be God’s agents of transformation in this world, we need to be those who consistently walk with God. We need to be watchful that our hearts are not led astray from a pure devotion to Christ (2 Corinthians 11:3). We need to listen with our hearts and not just our ears, so that we can be joyfully obedient to His word. Only such a life of devotion and obedience will be able to impact the world with a goodness that lasts for eternity.
